First Aid Kits

A first aid kit is a vital for any business, employers must make sure employees get immediate help if taken ill or injured at work.

For many organisations, standard first aid kits will cover the majority of their needs. The contents of your first aid kit should be based on your first aid needs assessment. Your first aid kit should include individually wrapped sterile plasters of assorted sizes, sterile eye pads, individually wrapped triangular bandages, preferably sterile, safety pins, disposable gloves, and wound dressings.

Make sure you check your kit regularly as many items are marked with expiry dates, ensure that these items get replaced.

If you work in an environment which contains dust or chemicals, you should make sure there are suitable eye wash facilities or supply saline or sterile water in sealed containers.

Administrating CPR

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) can bring risks to the first aider including blood and other bodily fluids which could contain diseases. When close contact is needed disposable gloves, resuscitation mask and an apron may want to be worn.

If you have been first aid trained and feel confident in using your skills you should give rescue breaths and chest compressions.

You might decide that you need someone who is first aid trained to become a first aider.
